I just got back from two weeks in the summer sun in Texas :) I love it there. Gwen and her family went on vacation so they called me back to come watch the house and help out while they were gone. I was so excited when she told me that I was invited back. Now to clarify a common misconception a lot of people think that i just go down there and do nothing but party. Which isn't true. It's a lot of hard work. I was sore and tried a lot of the time, but i still loved it. I have a love for the animals and the people there which makes the hard work easier. While down there I had planned to go to church and visit all my friends again but i ran out of time. I was working from sun up to sun down and through the night. It was a twenty-four hour job! But i still loved it.
For the two weeks I was there I was left in charge of the house and all the animals in it along with working outside with all the other animals in the zoo. In the house I was caregiver to the primates, the two of the twelve dogs that were pampered enough to live inside and they baby animals, three red kangaroos a wallaroo and a baby aardvark. It was busy to say the least. I was always doing something and it was usually feeding the animals. The primates got snacks during the day and the baby animals got feed every three hours. In between feedings i would be cleaning cages or outside raking. While I was at TGR Exotics we were also open to the public so along with all the animal care i was giving lots of tours! I loved giving tours! i loved the interaction with the people. I loved telling them about the animals and watching their faces when they learn something new or when i let them give a toy they made to porcupine or take a tamandua out of it's cage for them to pet on!
I can easily say that i almost worked myself to death those to weeks but i loved it. i didn't want to leave. i hate saying goodbyes. i hate leaving and not knowing when i will be back. it was really hard to say goodbye and there were many tears shed. but i just have to keep plugging along. life isn't going to stop and wait for me. Texas will always always be close to my heart!
This is my ride in texas :) i love driving this dually truck around!
Creature, the baby aardvark
This is my 2 month old baby cockatiel, Beans! She would sit on my shoulder for hours and be perfectly content.
My four kangaroo joeys!
Nyssa my 6 month old Great Dane puppy loved the kangaroos. She would walk over all slow and start smelling them and real slowly she would lick them. It was so cute :)
